[C] End of the road

He lead Wolfie back down their usual footpath, where he had last seen the little pup.

At least they could sort things out while they searched.

"Nothing too fancy until I can find work, I only really planned to stay for these two years, my funds are running low and the last thing I want is for us to end up homeless."

His plan to stay here did have a few holes, but they could work it out along the way.

The boy shook his hand dismissively.

"Don't worry about that. I can pay."

Working meant that they'd be apart for hours at a time most days of the week. He didn't want that.

He could support them. He had enough money at the moment to support them for a a long, long time. Decades. Maybe even a century if they were careful.

He didn't want to lose Cain to work.

"I can't let you do that, I'd feel terrible if you had to support me like that."

He wanted to contribute, he was from a family where each member had to pull their own weight, he couldn't just lay back and let his boyfriend pay for everything.

"I'll sort something out so don't worry."

There was always dock work, they never asked for much information and the pay wasn't bad, it was just labor intensive.

Wolfie pouted, his brows drawing together.

He didn't want Cain to go to work. That would leave him with nothing to do for hours at a time. Those hours could be spent together doing things.

"Fine," he mumbled softly, arms crossing over his chest.

He didn't like it but if it made Cain happy, he'd suffer through it.

"Don't stress, we will work it all out."

He muttered, ruffling Wolfie's hair affectionately as he gave the boy a smile.

His arm draped over the boy's shoulders as he pulled him closer, leaning down to nuzzle against him.

"Besides if the worst happens we could always live out in the forest, I'm sure you would love that, running around naked, chasing down rabbits for dinner."

He added with a laugh, he could see the boy more easily in a luxury setting than getting gritty in the forest.

Wolfgang laughed.

"You wouldn't be able to survive like that for long," he snorted with a little grin. "Pretty soon I'd be dragging you back to civilisation."

Wolfie could live out in a forest like that for the rest of his life without complaints.

Cain would never be able to do so.

Cain snorted.

"As if you could drag me back, I bet I would be able to last out in the woods longer than you would."

The human had no idea how wrong he was, still, if they were both human then Cain's survival ability would be far greater than Wolfie's it just so happened that wasn't the case at all.

"A pack of wolves would see you and gobble you up for a snack."

He replied with a growl, leaning over and biting Wolfie's shoulder multiple times.

The boy snorted loudly.

"Wolves? Right. They'd crown me as pack alpha." The sad thing about that was it was actually the truth.

As Cain bit into his neck and shoulder, the boy's hands fisted in his jacket, dragging him over his shoulder until the man landed flat on the ground at his feet.

He dropped to his knees and leaned over to press a chaste kiss to Cain's lips.

Wolfie giggled, silver-blue eyes sliding shut in an adorable little smile. "I'd be better suited to live here than you."

Cain grunted as he landed on his back, looking up at Wolfie with wide eyes.

He kissed the boy back, in complete disbelief as he pushed himself up onto his elbows.

"Ow, how the heck did you do that? I weigh like four times as much as you do."

The boy had knocked him down like he weighed nothing at all.

Cain huffed as the boy smiled down at him, now he had a bruised ass and ego.

"It's all about using people's weight against them."

The boy looked so cheery. He looked like he'd sprout a tail any second and it would start wagging like crazy.

He pressed another kiss to the man's lips before pushing himself to his feet.

"I'd win if we ever had a challenge to see who could stay in the forest for longer."

He was utterly confident with that declaration.

Cain groaned and pushed himself onto his feet, dusting the grass off of his clothing before shaking his head and walking forward.

"Come on, I'm determined to find that puppy, gonna spend all day out here if I have to."

He wanted to make sure it was safe, he loved dogs and he couldn't stand the idea of leaving it out here, he wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.

Wolfie sighed softly.

He had hoped that he could distract Cain enough that the human wouldn't remember what they were out here for.

He didn't want Cain to not be able to find the puppy and get really sad.

That would kill him a little, too. He didn't want to see Cain upset.

"He should be easy enough to spot, little fella had a white coat, should stand out."

He muttered, whistling softly to try and lure the puppy to them and he idly held Wolfie's hand.

The contact made him feel better for the moment.

"Tiny little thing, if we can't find it's owners we could consider keeping it, it can live out in the forest with us."

He joked with a chuckle.

Wolfie gave a soft hum in response.

He knew exactly what he was looking for. If they were going into detail, the puppy had dusty grey splotches of fur on its paws and muzzle, too. But he wasn't going to point that out.

"Maybe." Keeping a puppy around... He didn't know. It sounded fun but that would involve so much more. Medical treatment for the puppy if it got sick. Wolfie couldn't handle that. They'd really need to be living somewhere with a vet nearby for that.

"Let's split up. If we both look in different places, we'll be more likely to spot him."

Cain liked the idea of the proper family, the two of them, a little house near the ocean, big backyard with a dog.

He could see the two of them walking down the beach each day, joking and playing around, dog hot on their heels as they ran across the sand.

"Sure, don't go too far away from camp, I don't want you getting lost."

He replied as he leaned down and pressed a kiss to the boy's forehead.

"I won't get lost."

He leaned up to press a gentle kiss to Cain's lips. "I'll see you later."

The Lycan padded away, venturing into the forest to 'look around.'

When he was out of Cain's sight he sighed, crossing his arms over his chest. "Wolfgang, die Sie wirklich wissen, wie Sie sich in Kasinos bekommen," he sighed to himself.

The boy began stripping, tossing his clothes carelessly before shifting. This time his collar stayed around his neck. He didn't realise this, though. He forgot about his collar so easily.

The pup ran through the forest looking for Cain.

Cain padded down the footpath, whistling out for the puppy to come to him.

He hoped the little fella was alright, he already felt bad for losing it out here, he should have left it in the tent and gone to find Wolfie on his own, it was his fault it was out here in the first place.

"Here puppy!"

He called out, clicking his tongue as he tried to find any trace of it.

Wolfie tripped on an unearthed root and stumbled down the slight incline that met the path.

He ended up sat on the path, a little confused and disoriented with dirt clinging to his fur, not too far from where Cain was stood.

The pup sneezed, pawing at his nose with a whine. He got dirt in his nose.

Cain heard the sneeze and wheeled around, smiling brightly as he saw the pup sitting on the ground.

"There you are!"

He muttered excitedly as he padded over to the creature and scooped it up, his hand wiping the dirt off of it's nose with a chuckle.

His laughter stopped as he looked the creature over, his brows furrowing as his hand stroked over the leather collar around it's neck, pulling the engraved tag up to read it.

"...Wolfie..."

Fear entered the man's gaze as he looked around, what had happened to the boy, how the hell did this pup get his collar?

He clung to the creature before sprinting back the direction he had seen Wolfie go, terrified that someone had found the boy out in the forest by himself.

"Wolfie where are you!?"

He shouted out, the boy had to be able to hear him, they were only moments apart.

....Oh shit...

The pup nuzzled against Cain, whimpering softly as the human took off into the forest.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.

He'd fucked up big time now, hadn't he?

How could he get through this one without letting Cain know about him?

"Wolfie! Wolfgang where are you!?"

He shouted frantically, the boy wasn't responding to him.

With the pup in one arm he quickly pulled out his phone and called the boy's number, his gaze flicking up as he heard Wolfie's phone ring not too far away.

He bolted to that position, grinding to a stop as he saw the boy's clothing scattered on the ground.

Tears welled in the man's eyes as he looked down at the clothing, someone had taken the boy, taken him and was going god knows what to him.

"Fuck!"
He shouted, whacking a nearby tree firmly with his fist, he shouldn't have let the boy go off alone.

He hadn't seen Cain so desperate before.

The man was scared for him.

Wolfgang whined softly again before finally speaking through the link.

Cain. Cain, it's okay.

He nuzzled against the man's chest when he punched the tree.

It's okay. I'm safe.

Cain froze as he heard the boy's voice, it didn't sound right, he couldn't tell where the noise came from.

He looked around in confusion, moving around in a circle as he tried to make sense of what he was hearing.

"Wolfie?"

He muttered, relieved tears streaked down his cheeks as the boy spoke, he was safe, he was here somewhere.

"Where are you?"

He murmured as he brought his hand up to wipe his eyes, his chest rising and falling in a heavy pant as he tried to calm down.

Look down, he sighed softly.

The puppy looked up at Cain, staring expectantly as he waited for the human to make the link.

This was not a great way for Cain to find out about him.

Wolfie whined softly and pawed against Cain's chest.

Cain did as he was told, looking down at the puppy, his brows furrowing as he tried to piece together the puzzle.

The puppy was wearing Wolfie's collar and the two of them were never with him at the same time, when one disappeared the other appeared, and on top of that, he would hear Wolfie speaking into his mind.

There was only one logical explanation.

"I've gone insane..."

He muttered as he slid down the tree, landing in the pile of Wolfie's clothing while his hand idly stroked the creature's head.
