The Summon

Luca filled his lungs, taking a deep breath of crisp air. Hold it. then breath out slowly and calmly. Repeat.

He was doing, as his mother would of said, the stupidest idea yet. he was attempting to summon a demon.

In all the text books he owned, they all started it was a fairly straight forward spell - as easy as summoning a spirit. You just needed to have an intent; his was he want a power. A fairly straightforward intent, but something nevertheless.

The next was to make sure your summon has an invitation or open, then do what ever you need to do with the demon, then formally end the summon, making sure the connection has closed. Oh, and making sure you are careful with all your worlds.

That was about as far as the simulates got. All of his books had different instructions and spells. On book would tell him to draw a symbol in the air, the next would tell him to spill blood. Really, none of them were consistent. It was a shambles.

He came to the conclusion that as long as you followed the basic instructions that they gave it didn't matter whether you present the heart of a virgin or sacrifice a goat.

Luca did what his gut told him too as he made the summon. White candles surrounding him north, east, south and west inside a circle he drew in the dirt.

Ignoring the spells in his books he chanted in the most comfortable tongue to him when casting a spell, instructing a demon to come here and serve him and only him. All his thoughts on what he wanted and how the demon was going to give it too him.

Demons were all affected by the magic of the Overworld. The amount the magic affected you was dependent on the power each Demon had inside of them.

So when a young Demon felt the thrumming heat of a summons in his chest, he knew that someone with a good magical ability was performing a frankly quite basic summoning spell.

Either way, he had been chosen and he was just a little excited to get out of the Underworld.

Some Demons dreamed of a chance like this happening to them.

The Demon wooped loudly as he felt the pull of the magic drawing him to the location of the summon.

Luca felt the connection and and a grin stretched across his face. He was ninety-nine percent sure he was connected to the demon. If not, he will just end the connection and start again, chanting for the next hour or so. (He was not too sure how long he had been here.It seemed only a few minutes, but the sun had completely set.)

"I will speak to you demon. Appear before me."

Was that too formal? The instructions did say to speak clearly. Too be honest, this was the first time has had summon anything.

The words echoed around him as he was pulled into the Overworld.

His dark eyes flickered open when he was certain he was completely in the Overworld. His immediate reaction was to shiver. It was cold here in the Overworld.

Of course, it didn't help that his body was completely naked. It was only really the noble Demons that wore any type of clothing.

His eyes honed in on the boy sat in front of him as he rested his hands on his hips and put his weight on one leg in a surprisingly casual look considering the way Demon's were supposed to be.

He gasped and opened his eyes. The demon was here. He had done it. It was tempting to pump his fists in the air.

Sharp green eyes laid eyes on the demon in front of him. A very naked and slightly blue humanoid figure - if you took away the tail and horns.

He was nothing what Luca Expected.

"Are you really a demon?" He looked over the naked figure. "Don't lie to me."

Really, he was expecting something that look one-hundred percent human or an unrecognisable monster. Not a reject from Avatar.

Said Demon arched a brow at the gibberish being spoken at him.

He'd had plenty of time in his years to learn some languages. Italian wasn't a language that he was very familiar with.

"You summoned me?" he asked in his most familiar tongue: Latin.

He hoped that there wouldn't be a huge language barrier between them. It would be just his luck if he couldn't speak to his human because neither of them could understand the other.

"I did." Luca returned in Latin.

He repeated his question, translating it back into "Are you really a demon? Don't lie to me."

A fairly straight forward question and command. He had the power in this circle. He just had to choose the right words. He read they can easily twist them to suit their needs.

[[The Demon is speaking in Latin unless otherwise specified]]

The Demon rolled his eyes skywards at the translated question.

"Yes."

The boy had performed a summon for a Demon and he had appeared. What did the boy think he was? A cat?

Of course he was a Demon

"Good."

He eyed the demon - for once not bulldozing through this like a bull. He was going to take this slowly. He was going to try and do this carefully. One thing his mother never shut up about: 'don't fuck with demons'. He felt this was one bit of advice he should make seriously.

"I want more power. I want to be stronger."

He was sure there was no way the demon could bend those words to suit him.

The Demon nodded his head, his hair flopping in his face.

"I can do that."

It would be incredibly easy to make this human boy stronger. Creatures from the Overworld were a lot weaker than anyone from the Underworld.

He could power one easily enough.

"Good."

He tucked a loose piece of hair behind his ear and licked his top lip now what?

"Give it too me. I want you too make me as strong as possible... In my magical ability."

He didn't want to be able to lift a bus or some shit like that.

The Demon rolled his eyes.

"It doesn't work like that." Didn't this boy know anything about Demonic power?

"I feed you power when you cast a spell. We become linked and you feed from my power rather than your own."

Wasn't that common knowledge?

"... Oh."

His face burnt a little - he hated it he didn't know something.

"Well, I - I want you to lend me your power."

He tried to remember wheat his aunt told him those few times he met her. She was a specialist it summoning. In reflection, he should of probably talked to her before hand.

"So, we will make a contract then."

He kept his voice firm as if he knew what he was doing, eyes on the demon (trying not to drop lower then necessary).

It was difficult to hide how fucking scared he really was because holy shit he had summoned a demon and that little mistake really showed him how little he knew.

Despite his fear, this was also exciting as fuck.

The Demon's lips kicked up into a dangerous little smirk at the boy's stumble.

He'd heard of these. Clueless little humans looking for power that knew nothing about what they were getting into.

He'd always wanted to play with a clueless human. He'd heard a lot of Demon's laughing about how fun it was to play with their clueless little humans.

"Yes. We'll make a contract."

He nodded pleased with the outcome.

Okay, what now.

He studied the demon for a few seconds before deciding to take matters in his own hands.

"These are my terms of a contact: I want you to lend you power. I also want you appear when I summon you by name and obey my commands."

He was pretty sure that was everything he wanted from the demon.

The Demon nodded along.

"Easily done. Well, all except one thing."

His casual air faded and he gave a sheepish little grin. "I don't have a name to be called by." Not everyone in the Underworld had a name. He hadn't been given one yet.

He couldn't be summoned by name if he didn't have one.

Luca's eyebrows shot up. The demon didn't have a name?

He has always be taught that names were powerful things. You could summon someone though it or create a link with them or even kill someone just by knowing their true name. It was something all the members of his family would drill in his head, even his father who was not a witch. (It was probably why he had such a long name)

So for the demon to not have one felt a little... odd. He guessed it benefits - none of those things could happen to him because he never had one in the first place.

"So... What? Do you want me to name you like a dog or something?"

Nameing a demon. His mother would have a field day.

The Demon shrugged his broad shoulders carelessly.

Muscles rolled under his blue-tinted skin.

"If that's your solution to it, then yes. Name me like you would a pet." Either way he needed a name for this contract.

Wouldn't it just be fitting if his human named him?

[italics in italian]

This summon was going nothing like he expected it too.

"Okay ugh lemme just think... Nico."

It was the first name that popped in his head (this was not horrifyingly generic). It was also the name of his late rabbit.

"Nico Valdez."

He nodded to himself.

It fitted the demon.

"Now, the contract?"

"Nico," he repeated, getting a taste for his new name.

He could roll with that.

Ah, the contract. A wide grin curled the Demon's lips again. "I have accepted your terms of play. Mine are simple. In exchange for my power, I will own your soul upon your death."

His soul.

"Wow, creative."

Okay, he knew souls were a big deal and all. A very, very big deal.

But, still, even those that can get in contact with a soul only really got in contact with their memories. As far as he was aware, no one has spoken will a soul.

For all he knew, once he died he may just float eternally though the endless void or whatever.

Luca shrugged

"Okay. I accept."

In one swift movement, Nico lunged forwards and sank his claws into the boy's ribs through his many layers of clothing, gouging four large claw marks into his ribs.

With a fierce grin, he tore his claws from the boy's body and began lapping at the blood on his fingers like a cat would clean his paw.

"Welcome to the world of Demon contracts."

A yell echoed though a valley as Luca felt burning pain down his ribs. He groaned and clutched his bleeding side.

"The Fuck was that for?!"

Another groan fell out of his mouth and he fell too to his knees. It burnt. A lot. And he was pretty sure he was bleeding pretty heavily.

Green eyes glared up at the demon.

"So when does this contract come into affect?"

Nico laughed as he watched the boy on the ground.

"Immediately."

The Demon scuffed his foot on the dirt ground and grinned widely down at the boy. "I hope you know some healing spells."

"Of course I do you fuck."

He knew enough healing spells. He was no specialist. It was always just enough to keep him going and no dying some tragic death.

"Shit."

He reached for his staff and chanted in Latin to close the summon. The candles blew out and he felt the connection end.

Next port of call: The blood leaking out of his side.

Luca concentrated on the wound running his hand across the torn flesh. More blood smeared over his clothing and dripping on the dirt. Fuck, it hurt.

He chanted a spell he knew by heart. This wasn't the first time he used it, and not the last.

Blue sparks erupted from his hand to his wound. It stitched itself together in what he assumed would make a lovely scar.

The spell finished and he waited for the wave of exhaustion to hit him. It always did after he had cast a healing spell... it didn't. Instead he felt oddly refreshed, like it was his mother who had healed him with her gentle words.

He glanced down at his hands, a rare pleased smile gracing his features.

Dusting off his bloody and torn clothes he stood up. Attention back on Nico.

Oh yeah, he forgot Nico was naked. And blue.

"... Can you put some clothes on? I really don't want your blue dick dangling in front of my face."
